Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation

If tax deductibility of the gift is not important to you, gifts may be made directly to the Mu Upsilon Association. Such gifts have the benefit of being immediately available to support the chapter.

If tax deductibility is important, however, leadership gifts of $25,000 or more can be made to our philanthropic partner, the Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation. Established in 1945, the Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation is a 501(c)3 public charity (tax ID: 52-6036185) whose mission is to support the educational and charitable purposes of Phi Gamma Delta, its undergraduate brothers and its chapters.  The Foundation is assisting us in this project by accepting gifts to a special account in Mu Upsilon’s name, which will be used to provide long-term support of our Chapter brothers and 130 East High.  Their participation means that your gift will be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. As always, consult your tax advisor to understand the details of your specific situation.

To make your gift through the Foundation, the first step is to complete this pledge form. When completed, mail it to our Treasurer Brother Mike McGurk (’70) using the mailing directions found on the form. Once made, there are several ways in which you can fulfill your pledge:

Appreciated Securities

With the stock market run-up over the last few years, one of the best methods for charitable giving involves contribution of appreciated stocks and bonds.  You can avoid capital gains taxes on appreciated securities you donate and you can deduct the full fair market value of the gift from your taxes in the year you make the gift. They can be transferred electronically from your brokerage account or they can be sent through the mail in certificate form.

To transfer shares electronically, please direct the sending institution to the send the shares to:

DTC Number: 0062
For the Benefit of: Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation Inc
Brokerage number: 84578989

Note: interestingly, there is no provision in the DTC transfer process to provide the name of the person who is making the contribution. To ensure that your gift is credited in your name and to the Mu Upsilon CHEF account, please notify Ben Robinson, Executive Director, by phone ((859) 255-1848 ext 159) or email (brobinson@phigam.org) that a transfer is to be expected, providing the name of the donor, the name and amount of securities to arrive, and requesting the gift should be credited to the Mu Upsilon CHEF.

If you have questions, or if you need directions on sending securities in certificate form, you or your broker may contact Brother Robinson as noted above.

Online

Use this secure online donation form to make a one-time gift to the Educational Foundation. To ensure that your gift is allocated to Mu Upsilon:

  1. In the Designation box, Select “Other (Restricted, CHEF or Chapter Funds)”.
  2. In the new “Other” field that then appears, type “Mu Upsilon CHEF”.

Gifts By Check

Checks should be made payable to Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation, with “Mu Upsilon CHEF” in the memo field, and mailed to Brother Mike McGurk (’70):

Estate Gifts

Though the campaign is focused on current, cash gifts, estate gifts will be accepted and included in our campaign totals. Estate gifts may not, however, be used to name a portion of the Chapter house until the gift is actually received from the donor’s estate. For additional information on estate gifts, please contact Mark Wilkison (Vermont ’83) by email or phone (mark@columnsfundraising.com; 404-317-0435).
